What Kodansha announced

Reporting from Kodansha’s Anime NYC panel says Hajime no Ippo: Fighting Spirit will receive its first English print edition in fall 2027. The books will use a three-in-one omnibus format, combining three Japanese volumes in each physical English release.

The panel also included Trapped on Tape for fall 2027 and five Print Club titles arriving between September 2026 and January 2027. Those other books establish the wider slate, but Hajime no Ippo is the central access change because it is not merely another format for an existing English print line.

Why physical access is different

Kodansha’s K Manga service has already made an official digital English version available in its supported market. A print edition creates another form of ownership, library circulation and long-term reading that does not depend on the same service interface or chapter-purchase model.

Three-volume omnibuses can move through a very long series faster than single volumes, but the announcement does not establish how frequently books will ship or how far Kodansha has committed to publishing. A first edition is a beginning, not a guarantee that the entire Japanese run is already scheduled.

The remaining practical questions

Fall 2027 is a broad window. Readers still need exact release days, prices, trim size, translation and lettering credits, digital-versus-print territory rules and a cadence for later omnibuses. Print runs and bookstore allocation also remain unknown.

The strongest conclusion today is still historic for English-language fans: an official physical line exists and has a format and season. The next title-specific listing should reveal whether Kodansha can turn that access breakthrough into a sustainable route through Morikawa’s extensive series.
