France and South Korea launch a €1 billion screen partnership as the Lumière Summit builds independent-cinema support
France and South Korea announced September 7 that each will mobilize €500 million for film, audiovisual and moving-image investment over five years, with France's share routed through Bpifrance from 2027–2031. The summit also created IRIS to support independent cinemas, distributors and circulation networks, launched an 18-month Audiovisual Next Gen program for 20 under-35 professionals, and formed a Lumière Alliance already joined by 54 public agencies. These are commitments and structures, not proof that all money has been disbursed or productions completed.
