Weekly Shonen Sunday opened a new award for original manga containing at least one fantasy element, with Rumiko Takahashi serving as chair. Entries may be no longer than 42 pages and are due January 11, 2027; results are scheduled for March 24. The grand prize is ¥1 million plus publication in the main magazine or an extra edition and on Sunday Webry, but the rules do not promise serialization or international-language submission support.

Shogakukan begins adapting 20 complete picture books as narrated short animations on September 15

Shogakukan launched the project on September 15 with twenty books ranging from long-running titles to recent works. The adaptations retain the original illustrations while adding motion direction and read-aloud narration. Initial distribution uses d Anime Store, its Niconico outlet, its Prime Video channel and its LINE Manga service, with additional services promised later. No per-title release calendar, territory expansion or language plan has been announced.

Shogakukan's Mansai 2026 opens free access to selected content from about 470 manga series

The campaign began September 4 and will make more than 1,500 volumes across about 470 works available free in eight overlapping weekly themes. The first shonen-manga selection runs through September 17, while later romance, classic, vertical-scroll, seinen and shojo windows extend the programme through November 5. Exact selections can vary by retailer, and access outside supported Japanese stores is not established.
