Universal labels sue DistroKid over 1,000 allegedly infringing recordings

The September 15 complaint alleges copyright infringement and deceptive trade practices and lists 1,000 recordings the labels say copy or sample works they own or license. The plaintiffs seek an injunction and statutory damages. The filing proves the claims were made, not that DistroKid is liable; no merits response from DistroKid was found.

Electronic Arts and three major music groups back Stability AI's US$76 million funding round

Stability AI announced on August 25 a US$76 million Series B, bringing funding under its current leadership to US$232 million. Investors include Electronic Arts, Sony Music Group, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, AMD Ventures and Pacific Alliance Ventures; the company says it will expand production tools, applied research and professional services. Valuation and individual investment amounts were not disclosed.

UMG takes global control of Beatles merchandise and licensing ahead of four biopics

Universal Music Group and Apple Corps announced a long-term worldwide partnership on August 19 covering physical and digital Beatles merchandise, licensing and e-commerce. Apple Corps chief executive Tom Greene tied the timing to a Savile Row fan experience planned for 2027 and Sam Mendes’s four interconnected Beatles films planned for 2028; no products, financial terms or film-production changes were disclosed.
