Judge drops the broad dembow composition theory in lawsuits reaching Bad Bunny and 1,800 songs
Rolling Stone reports that U.S. District Judge André Birotte Jr. reversed his July position and dismissed the plaintiffs' central composition-infringement theory on September 1. He found that they had not identified one copyrighted composition containing the combined rhythmic elements they sought to protect. Narrower claims alleging direct sampling of sound recordings remain, so the ruling does not end every case or clear every defendant on every theory.
