LAcon V publishes its Magical Masquerade winners across young-fan, novice, journeyman and open divisions

LAcon V's August 30 newsletter published the results of the August 29 Magical Masquerade. Samantha Olszowka received the young-fan honour for “The Mermaid”; Gigi Coulson took novice presentation and workmanship best in class for an 18th-century Outlander gown; Sue Renhard won journeyman presentation and workmanship honours; and Janine Wardale and Tina Riggs received the open presentation judges' choice for “Take Me Outside.” Additional awards recognize interpretation, reproduction, headwear, elegance and technical work.

LAcon V sets tonight's photographer deadline before its August 29 Worldcon Masquerade in Anaheim

The Masquerade begins August 29 at 8 p.m. in the Anaheim Convention Center Arena in Anaheim, California, United States. Online performance entry closed August 26, with onsite entry only if space remains; photographer registration closes August 28 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific. A virtual 'Traveling with Costumes' panel with Christine Doyle, Gigi Coulson, Jean Martin and Kevin Roche is scheduled Friday at 3 p.m. Pacific.

T. Kingfisher opens LAcon V tonight before the Anaheim Worldcon's Montreal 2027 handoff

LAcon V, the 84th World Science Fiction Convention, runs August 27–31 at the Anaheim Convention Center and adjacent hotels in Anaheim, California, United States. Kingfisher hosts the opening ceremony Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Pacific in the convention-center arena. The closing ceremony is Monday at 3 p.m. at Hilton Anaheim and includes the formal handoff to Montreal 2027.

LAcon V runs August 27–31 at the Anaheim Convention Center and host hotels in Anaheim, California, United States. Its official rules set the online Masquerade entry deadline for Wednesday, August 26 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time. Onsite registration may continue only until 4:59 p.m. Thursday and remains capacity-dependent; the show is Saturday, August 29 at 8 p.m. in the arena.
