Gamescom equipment thefts hit independent studios and raise exhibitor-security questions

Game Developer reported August 31 that laptops and Steam Decks were stolen from Gamescom's business area and Indie Arena during the completed 2026 show. Mimic developer Ryan Laley, iam8bit and Tessera Studios described losses; Tessera said two laptops and a Steam Deck contained personal, company and critical information. CD Projekt Red and Games From Spain offered replacement hardware or operating help. Gamescom said uniformed guards cover general security, individual stand security can be booked separately and exhibitors should insure equipment.

Gamescom 2026 reports 368,000 visitors, 1,743 exhibitors and 624 million digital views

After the August 24–30 event in Cologne, organizers reported 368,000 visitors from 131 countries—11,000 more than in 2025 but below the 2019 record—and 1,743 exhibitors from 66 countries. More than 36,000 trade visitors attended, while show programming had passed 624 million digital views by Saturday evening, including 78 million for Opening Night Live. The report's headline, summary and official figures say 368,000 although one body sentence says 386,000. Gamescom set its next week for August 23–29, 2027, with the public show opening August 26.
